This year marks the 110th anniversary of the birth of Ilyas Yesenberlin, a famous Kazakh writer and historical novelist. Laureate of the State Prize of the Kazakh SSR (1968).
Ilyas Yesenberlin is the first major Kazakh historical novelist, whose works made the Kazakh nomadic culture known to the world and contributed to the formation of the historical memory of the people.
The writer’s life path was difficult: from a street child to the author of millions of copies, including military service, injury in the war, repression and imprisonment.
Yesenberlin’s most famous works are the historical trilogies “Nomads” and “The Golden Horde”, which reflect the history of the Kazakh people and the formation of statehood.
