Nurken Abdirov is a Soviet military pilot, sergeant, Hero of the Soviet Union. He was born on August 9, 1919 in village No. 5 of Karkaralinsky district, Karaganda region, RSFSR. By nationality Kazakh. Before being drafted into the army, he worked on a collective farm. In 1940, he was drafted into the Red Army. In 1941, he graduated from the 1st Chkalov Military Aviation Pilot School named after K. E. Voroshilov (in Orenburg). At the front since October 28, 1942. He served as a pilot in the 808th Assault Aviation Regiment of the 267th Assault Aviation Division of the 1st Mixed Aviation Corps of the 17th Air Army of the Southwestern Front. On December 19, 1942, during the storming of enemy positions near the Konkov farm (Bokovsky district of the Rostov region) His plane took a direct hit to the engine and caught fire. Realizing that there was no chance of reaching his own, Abdirov sent a burning car into a column of enemy tanks. The air gunner, junior Sergeant Alexander Komissarov, who refused to leave the burning car, died with him. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated March 31, 1943, he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumously) for exemplary performance of combat missions of the command at the front of the struggle against the German invaders and his bravery and heroism. He was buried in the Konkov farm. Memory of Nurken Abdirov: monument in Karaganda, memorial plaque on Mamayev Kurgan, Sports Palace named after him in Karaganda.
