Name in history: Alimkhan Yermekov


Alimkhan Abeuovich Yermekov is a Kazakh public figure, one of the founders of the Alash party, the first Kazakh professor of mathematics. He was born on May 25, 1891 in Karkaralinsky district of Semipalatinsk region (now Aktogay district of Karaganda region). In 1912-1917, he studied at the Tomsk Institute of Technology (now Tomsk Polytechnic University). In 1923, he received a diploma in mining engineering and a degree in geological exploration. In 1920, as a member of the Central Executive Committee of the Kazakh SSR, Ermekov was in Moscow, at a meeting chaired by V. Lenin, made a report on the situation in Kazakhstan. As a result, it was possible to achieve the return of a number of territories to Kazakhstan, including the Caspian coast, Akmola and Semipalatinsk regions. In 1938, he was arrested on false denunciation of counterrevolutionary activities. He has been under investigation and in custody for 18 years. In 1955, he was released early, and in 1955-1957 he was officially rehabilitated. Alimkhan Yermekov is the author of the textbook Uly Mathematics courses (Course of Higher Mathematics), published in 1935 in Kazakh. He developed a reference dictionary Mathematical terms in the Kazakh language. He died on June 22, 1970 in Karaganda. Streets in the cities of Karaganda and Astana, a specialized Book House and schools are named after Yermekov.
