Name in history: Ahmet Baitursynuly


Akhmet Baitursynov is a Kazakh educator, teacher, publicist, translator, Turkologist, linguist and politician. He was born on September 5, 1872 in the village of Akkol, Turgai region, and died on December 8, 1937 in Alma Ata. One of the leaders and active figures of the Alash movement. He took an active part in the national liberation movement in Kazakhstan. He created a new spelling (kaz. zhana emle), also known as the Baytursyn Arabic alphabet for the Kazakh language. At the beginning of the 21st century, this alphabet was used by Kazakhs in China, Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey and some other countries. He has developed textbooks on native speech, textbooks for the educational system, and an illustrated primer. He is known for his fables, collected in the collections Forty Fables and Masa. He also collected and published samples of Kazakh oral folk art. In 1988, Akhmet Baitursynov was rehabilitated.
