Name in history: Ahmet Baitursynuly


Ahmet Baitursynuly is a Kazakh educator, teacher, publicist, translator, Turkologist, linguist and politician. He was born on September 5, 1872 in the village of Akkol, Turgai region, and died on December 8, 1937 in Alma Ata. He took an active part in the national liberation movement in Kazakhstan. He was a member of the Provisional People‘s Council of AlashOrda (1917-1920), editor-in-chief of the sociopolitical newspaper Kazakh (1913-1918). He created a new spelling for the Kazakh language, also known as the Baytursyn Arabic alphabet. At the beginning of the 21st century, this alphabet was used by Kazakhs in China, Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey and some other countries. He has developed textbooks on native speech, textbooks for the educational system, and an illustrated primer. He had a significant impact on the development of Kazakh literature and writing. In 1988, Ahmet Baitursynuly was rehabilitated.
