Karkaraly is 200 years old

Karkaraly is a city in Kazakhstan, the administrative center of the Karkaraly district of the Karaganda region. It is located in the eastern part of the region, 220 km southeast of Karaganda, at the eastern foot of the Karkaraly Mountains. It appeared in 1824 as a military fortification of the Russian Empire. In 1827, the Karkaralinsk Cossack village was established on the basis of the fortress. Since 1869, Karkaralinsk has received the status of a city. According to local legend, the name of the city comes from the decorative Kazakh headdress karkara. According to legend, the bride left such a headdress in one of the villages, and since then the village has been called Karkara.
