Biological and related sciences

Biological sciences are a system of sciences that study the forms and patterns of development of living organisms. The biological sciences include a number of disciplines:

  • Private sciences. They study specific systematic groups of living organisms (plants, animals, fungi, bacteria, viruses, humans).
  • General sciences:
    • Cytology (studies living cells, their structure, functioning, processes of cell reproduction, aging and death);
    • Histology (studies the structure, vital activity and development of tissues of living organisms);
    • Anatomy (studies the internal structure of organisms);
    • Physiology (studies the patterns of functioning and regulation of biological systems at different levels).
  • Sciences at the junction with other sciences:
    • Biochemistry (studies the chemical composition of living cells and organisms, as well as the underlying chemical processes);
    • Biophysics (studies the physical aspects of the existence of living nature at all its levels, from molecules and cells to the biosphere as a whole).
